About Upper West Side

The Upper West Side’s beautiful blocks are lined with classic pre-war apartment buildings and brownstones. Many exhibited elements of the Beaux-Arts and Neo-Renaissance styles with conspicuous opulence; adorned with impressive facades, monumental entrances, elaborate projecting cornices, and ornate balconies, showcasing the excess of the Gilded Age. Some of the area's most sought-after homes are in landmarked buildings on West End Avenue by the architect Rosario Candela, who was a pioneer in developing many of the concepts of modern luxury apartment houses during the 1920s. We’ve sold apartments and buildings here designed by Candela and his contemporaries and acclaimed architects of the period Emory Roth and McKim, Meade & White. Other historic properties include the storied Dakota, Beresford, Ansonia, and the newly redeveloped ‘Belnord’ condominiums. An opulent Italian-Neo-Renaissance palazzo that is the fictional location for the murder-mystery show “Only Murders in the Building”. But even those seeking the very best in contemporary architecture will have many to choose from too, like the notable 15 Central Park West and the Time Warner Center. Both are high-profile recent developments with an international who’s who that has invested in homes there.

The Upper West Side is world-class. Performing arts and cultural institutions include the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts with the Metropolitan Opera House complex and Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Museum of Arts and Design at Columbus Circle in the southeast corner of the area. Others include The Museum of Natural History, the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Science, and the New York Historical Society. College campuses, which call the Upper West Side home include the Juilliard School, CUNY’s John Jay College, and the Bard Graduate Center. Add movie theaters, community centers, a bustling Broadway shopping district, and a wide range of casual and fine-dining options. You’ll never be bored here. The neighborhood is bounded by Riverside Park on the Hudson to the West, and Central Park to the East. Making it one of New York City’s best locations for those who value a respite from the pace of the city that acres of green space, fresh air, and sunshine provide. The Upper West Side is bounded by 59th St. on the south, Central Park to the east, the Hudson River to the west, and 110th St. to the north.
